Once know as Bradstow (broad place) Broadstairs began as a fishing village,
smuggling and ship building was its main industry at the time then
in the 19th century the Victorians began the now popular weekend pastime of tourism, Broadstairs with its soft sandy beaches quickly became invaded on warm summer weekends by visitors.
Today Broadstairs plays host to Dickens Festival, Folk Week and many other festivities over the year.
